What is the CQV validation process?

When a drug or medical product is produced, there are many risks involved. This is why it is critical that processes exist to monitor and evaluate the safety of equipment used to develop pharmaceutical products. To do this, pharmaceutical companies follow the CQV process. CQV stands for Commissioning,Qualification and Validation. It is a multi-step testing process that allows pharmaceutical companies totest their manufacturing equipment according to industry standards, regulations and requirements.

• Commissioning.

  This part of the CQV process ensures that all facilities and equipment used in the production process are designed and installed as intended. This is to ensure the safety of the product and the safety of those using the equipment in production. The commissioning phase of the CQV process involves a lot of documentation and testing. If you are a CQV engineer, your main responsibilities (in this part of the CQV process) will be to: Document any problems encountered with the equipment and how to solve them. Perform the desired adjustment protocols for the specified equipment. Protect the equipment before putting it into service.

• Qualification

  The next step is to qualify the equipment for safe use. There are three qualification steps that must be followed in this part of the CQV process.

  • Step 1: Installation Qualification (IQ).
    This step ensures that the equipment is installed correctly. It basically goes over what happened in the first phase (commissioning) and ensures that all documentation is in order.
  • Step 2: Operational Qualification (OQ).
    Operational qualification involves verifying that the equipment is functioning as intended. For example, this could involve verifying that the equipment can operate for a specified duration without affecting anything else around it or without malfunctions.
  • Step 3: Performance Qualification (PQ).
    This is to ensure that the equipment can perform efficiently and consistently under the conditions under which it will operate.

• Validation

  The validation phase of the CQV process involves multiple reviews. It is an ongoing part of the CQV process that is used to ensure sustainable safety around the equipment. This step may involve monitoring data, as this will help a CQV engineer assess the efficiency of the equipment. They might also do this by sampling the equipment and the product it produces to ensure that each product meets the required specifications. Validation is probably the most integral part of the CQV process, as the documentation produced by this step can help you avoid compliance problems if your product is found to be defective.
